A new survey shows what type of New Year resolutions some of us should be making, with 12% of Irish people saying they do not not exercise at all.
The survey also found that 14% of women and 10% of men do not exercise, while 16% of 35-44 year olds do not exercise, making this the least active age group.
The survey, based on 1,000 respondents, also highlights that 56% of women do not engage in any organised sport but exercise in order to keep fit, compared to 36% of men.
In terms of individual and team based competitive sports, men (32%) are more active in this area compared to women (11%).
The Pembroke Sports Sentiment Index also found that the 55-plus age group are quite active, with only 10% not undertaking any form of physical activity.
The survey also revealed that 40% of people cited walking as their preferred form of exercise; of which 51% of women compared to 29% of men and the 55-plus age group were found to be the most active walkers at 55%.
Three other forms of exercise that scored highly were running (16%), cycling (15%) and swimming (22%). Women are more active in swimming at 25% compared to 20% of men while cycling is more of a male domain at 19% compared to 10% of women, the survey found.
